St. Hilda's Special School caters for pupils aged between 4 and 18 years with both moderate and severe learning disabilities. The school follows the National Primary School Curriculum and is recognised by the Department of Education and Skills. It is staffed with a principal, 7 class teachers, 13 special needs assistants, 1 general assistant and a number of visiting professionals. . The low pupil to teacher ratio ensures individual attention, which enhances the development of each student's potential.

The school also benefits from the services of a secretary and maintenance staff. Our new onsite classroom caters for pupils with a severe or profound intellectual disability. The class has the added support of an on-site nurse and care staff.

We recognise and value parents as the most important educators of their children. Teachers communicate with parents through the use of home/school diaries. Parents are always welcome to visit the school at any time.

Our pupils travel to and from the school daily. Each bus has a bus escort on board to ensure the health and safety of the students.

At St. Hilda's School we recognise that each pupil is unique, with individual gifts, strengths and needs. For this reason each pupil in our school has an Individual Education Plan (IEP) compiled by the class teacher, psychologist, speech & language therapist, occupational therapist, parents and other relevant contributors.

This is a written plan, that documents the student's goals and targets for the coming year and the strategies that will be used to enable the pupil to achieve them.
