Buttercups

16-October-20

The Buttercup Class

It’s great to be back in school! We really missed all our friends and we are looking forward to a great year ahead.

We’ve had a busy start getting used to lots of new rules and regulations but we’re settling in well. Every morning we take time to be mindful, we concentrate on our breathing techniques, we say our affirmations and do our Rainbow breaths. This sets us up for the day and we’re ready to work!

Our focus this year is working towards our QQI qualifications. We are taking courses in Level 1 Horticulture, Personal Care & Computer Skills and Level 3 Breakfast Cookery. It’s a lot of work but we really enjoy it, especially eating the lovely breakfasts we cook!

Autumn is a beautiful season and we’ve enjoyed some lovely autumn walks. We went on an autumn trail looking out for signs of autumn. We found lots of interesting things but we couldn’t manage to catch a glimpse of a little squirrel! We’ve created lots of autumnal art using our findings. We’ve made leaf hedgehogs and squirrels, autumn trees, leaf rubbings and we’ve even painted freestyle with all our autumn colours.

We continue daily with our reading, writing and maths and we are all making great strides. On Friday’s we take a walk to our local fitness park which has recently opened. It’s a favourite of ours! We get to try out the balance beams, hang out on the bars and run through the tyres. Hopefully the weather stays good so we can continue to get out and about for lots of fresh air. On Friday afternoons we have our own class shop. Each week someone gets a turn to be shopkeeper and we get to buy ourselves a Friday treat :)

Halloween is coming soon and we are looking forward to decorating our classroom. We might even get to dress up and play some Halloween games!

It’s been such a busy term and we’ve lots more to do. Check back in again soon for more updates from the Buttercup Class.
