St Hilda's Special School Athlone

Principal's Welcome

St Hilda's Special School is a co-educational school for pupils aged 4-18 who have been assessed as having a moderate or severe/profound learning disability. Many of our pupils also have additional needs such as physical disabilities, sensory impairment or autistic spectrum disorders. We follow the primary curriculum for pupils aged 4-12 and the post primary curriculum for pupils aged 13-18 years.

Our aim is to provide the children with a caring and inspiring academic atmosphere to enable them to achieve their full potential. Through carefully planned individual educational programmes we aim to foster independence, dignity, self-discipline and social independence, thus preparing, as far as possible, each student for the responsibilities and experiences of adult life. Our mission statement "Real education for real life" is reflected in our teaching approaches.

We recognise and value parents and would like to extend a warm welcome to those who are interested in finding more out about our school.
