St Hilda's Special School Athlone

Hello and welcome back to the Daffodil Class. We had relaxing Easter holidays but are delighted to be back with our friends in class. We are thoroughly enjoying our beautiful new sensory room in our class. We are busy getting ready for Summer and have had some lovely outings this term.

We enjoy language and communication. We love listening to stories being read and reading our own books daily. We are reading ‘Giraffes can’t dance’, The 3 Little Pigs’, and ‘Have you filled a bucket today’ in class. We also enjoy sensory books during Circle Time. We are learning LÁMH signs and love watching our nursery rhymes through LÁMH also. We enjoy pre-writing and colouring activities.

We have lots of fun during our Art lessons. We enjoyed making our summer trees and caterpillars. We experimented with paint and collage to create a beautiful ‘Under the Sea’ display in class. We love messy play and explore Thera putty, playdough, water, and sand. In SESE we learned all about people who help us in the community, life under the sea, and all about summer. We also walked to the Post Office to post letters. We are all excited about the sunny weather and love getting out to the playground. In maths we have been working very hard learning all about numbers, extending patterns and shape and space. We enjoy Aistear play in class throughout the day.

We are a very active class and love to run and play in the hall for PE. Music makes us all very happy in class and we love listening to music and playing percussion instruments. We enjoyed ‘The yellow submarine’ song. We enjoy baking with Bernie every Thursday morning and thoroughly enjoy mixing and cutting out pastry shapes. We made Banana bread, strawberry and cream tarts, red velvet muffins and chocolate chip cookies.

We celebrated Peter’s 6th Birthday and had a fantastic party in class. Peter had a delicious birthday cake to share with his friends. The highlight of this term was our school tour to Glendeer pet farm. We had a wonderful day out. We fed all the animals and had a lovely walk around the farm. There is a huge playground and we particularly enjoyed the tunnel slide. We had a delicious lunch before returning to school. We are all looking forward to plenty of more sunny days with our friends before our summer holidays.
