St Hilda's Special School Athlone

We are all so happy to see our friends and get back to school after our Christmas break! We have all had lots of news to share about what we got up to over our Christmas break! Bryan had lots of stories to tell and pictures to share of his trip to Brazil. Lee celebrated his 15th birthday in January and everybody enjoyed sharing what they got from Santa. We all enjoyed winter but we are happy to see that Spring is here! We are looking forward to some sunshine and longer days.

This term we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and we have been practicing our addition and subtraction along with our counting and number names. We have been working hard with our reading and comprehension activities and we have been enjoying our daily news writing. Some of us have been working really well on our Speech and Language programmes. We love sharing our news during circle time and singing our circle time songs.

We have lots to celebrate this term with Pancake Tuesday, Valentines, Mother’s day, St Patrick’s day, Easter and Bryan’s birthday. We have been enjoying getting out and going for walks and cycles and playing lots of outdoor games when the weather is dry. We enjoy sensory play and our weekly cookery lessons. We are getting really good at getting all the utensils and equipment organised before starting our baking and cooking lessons. We enjoy washing and tidying up after and writing about the recipes we have cooked.

In the tulip class we enjoy using lots of materials, working collaboratively and individually to produce lots of lovely art pieces. We love participating in our weekly music lessons. As part of our SPHE programme we have all been trying to make sure we clean our hands and workspace properly and that we sanitise our hands regularly throughout the day.
